Venus-Mars in synastry

Venus-Mars aspects in synastry are highly touted by astrologers, and with good reason. Venus is a feminine planet, and represents love, balance, harmony, and rules our one-on-one relationships. Mars is Venus’ counterpart; it is a masculine planet, and represents sex, aggression, and action.

When Venus meets Mars in synastry, yin meets yang. There is an irresistible romantic and physical attraction to one another, which can be difficult to ignore. This is a great indicator of a lasting attraction, and the attraction and physical chemistry will last as long as the two remain together.

Mars is attracted to Venus’ beauty and charm, while Venus finds Mars irresistibly sexy. Each person sees the other as their physical ideal. Sexually, the chemistry is off the charts!

The relationship is likely to be highly romantic and fulfilling for both partners. You instinctively know how to please each other sexually, which can make the physical aspect of your relationship highly addictive.

In fact, you are likely to see each other as someone you’d like to have children with.

This is especially true of the conjunction, trine, and sextile.

The hard aspects (square, opposition) between Venus and Mars may give rise to difficulties. The sexual and romantic attraction is very strong in this case, but there is exists a conflict in timing and approach.

Venus may find Mars too aggressive, and may feel the Mars person is only interested in her for sexual gratification. She may feel uncomfortable with Mars’ direct approach, and may feel he is too aggressive.

The Mars person may find the Venus person too flowery and sensitive, or even prudish. Issues of jealousy and possessiveness are likely with this aspect.

This aspect works best when it is mutual (i.e. person A’s Venus aspects B’s Mars, and A’s Mars aspects B’s Venus). If the aspect is unilateral, it is traditionally believed that it works best when the man is the Mars person, and the woman is the Venus person.

Mars is a masculine planet, and often takes on the role of the “pursuer”, while Venus is female, and is usually the submissive partner. I’ve known couples that have this aspect, but the woman is the Mars person and the man is the Venus person, but it did not work well.

He told me, “She’s like a man!” which he didn’t like at all. However, this really depends on the rest of synastry, as well as how comfortable the man feels being in a more “submissive” role.
