The Worst Aspects in Synastry

Earlier, we discussed the best synastry aspects you can find in a astrology compatibility chart.

But what about the ‘bad’ ones? Which synastry aspects are considered detrimental to a relationship? Let’s discuss.

The worst synastry aspects

Sun square Mars, Sun opposite Mars

This aspect is tough to handle , especially those who do not like too much conflict or drama in their relationships. The Sun and Mars are both confrontational and driven planets. so a square aspects between them in synastry can lead to much frustration and ego clashes.

In this couple, competitiveness is taken to a new level. These two may see each other more as enemies rather than partners, and tend to irritate each other easily. At some point, the irritation and conflict may become too much, resulting in a huge blowout.

Moon square Mars, Moon opposite Mars

Hard aspects between one person’s Mars and another person’s Moon indicates petty arguments and hurt feelings. In this relationship, the couple know how to get under each other’s skin.

The Moon person may find the Mars person overly aggressive, rude, and hurtful, while the Mars person thinks the Moon person is overly sensitive and emotional. Indeed, the Moon person is very sensitive to any perceived meanness or aggression from the Mars person, and vice versa. There is a tendency to taking things “the wrong way” in this relationship. It is hard to discuss feelings without hurting each other.

Mars square Mars, Mars opposite Mars

This is another tough aspect. Mars is the planet of energy and action, so when it is in square aspect to another person’s Mars, frustrations and conflicts may feature strongly in the relationship. This couple is very competitive with each other, but not in a healthy way. These two easily irritate and annoy one another, which can make it hard to stay together in the long run.

This aspect also does not bode very well in the bedroom. It shows different likes and dislikes, and dissimilar rhythms and energies.

Sun square Saturn, Sun opposite Saturn

This aspect can be tough in a relationship. The Sun person feels stifled and restricted by the Saturn person, while the Saturn person may feel the Sun person is immature and impractical.

The Sun person may eventually feel they are treated like a child by the Saturn person. For the Saturn person, it can be hard not to criticize the Sun person, for they see the Sun person as childish and irresponsible. This relationship can have a negative effect on the Sun person’s self-esteem in the long run.

Moon square Saturn, Moon opposite Saturn

The square between one person’s Moon and another person’s Saturn indicates emotional distancing and censoring. In this relationship, the Moon person does not feel safe and free to express their emotional needs. Instead, they feel afraid to express themselves to the Saturn person, out of fear the Saturn person will reject or disapprove of the Moon’s feelings.

The Saturn person feels the Moon person is overly sensitive and needy, while the Moon person finds the Saturn person cold and impersonal. In this relationship, the Saturn person probably feels awkward about emotional communication, so they discourage the Moon person from expressing themselves.

Venus square Saturn, Venus opposite Saturn

This is a classic indicator of relationship difficulties. In this relationship, the couple feels awkward expressing their love and affection to each other. This is because the Saturn person tends to discourage the Venus person from doing so. It can be very difficult to understand what each person feels in this relationship.

This aspect also indicates there could be barriers standing in the way of this couple formalizing a partnership. Sometimes differences in cultures, religions, social classes are indicated by this aspect.

Mars square Saturn, Mars opposite Saturn

This aspect is a tough one, and indicates much frustration and conflict in the relationship. The Mars person feels stifled and restricted by the Saturn person, and feel that nothing they do is ‘good enough’ for the Saturn person. Saturn wants to repress the Mars person’s energy and drive, for they find the Mars person very childish, impatient and impulsive.

The Saturn person may frequently get annoyed with the Mars person, while the Mars person finds the Saturn person to be a wet blanket. The Mars person feels they cannot express their assertive side without upsetting Saturn. This aspect can be a recipe for disaster, with both partners feeling frustrated with the other.

Sun square Uranus, Sun opposite Uranus

Uranus is the planet of freedom and liberation, so when it is square another person’s Sun, it can cause relationship issues. This relationship may have begun very suddenly and unexpectedly.

The Uranus person is generally unreliable and unpredictable when it comes to fulfilling their obligations to the Sun person. In turn, the Sun person might not feel they can rely on the Uranus person in times of need. Something always seems to get in the way of their relationship, and the plans they make together often do not pan out. This relationship has a strong on-off quality, and it can be difficult for these two to settle into a committed partnership.

Venus square Neptune, Venus opposite Neptune

If you have this aspect natally, everyone around your age has their Neptune in square aspect to your Venus.

This aspect can be problematic because of the confusion and deception Neptune tends to bring to a relationship. The Venus person feels the Neptune person is their soulmate, and vice-versa, but there can be difficultly when it comes to committing to each other fully.

When issues arise in this relationship, this couple is likely to ignore conflict and sweet their troubles under the rug. Other may think the couple is not in touch with reality because of their refusal to see the relationship for what it is.

The Venus person (or the Neptune person) projects their ideals on their partner. There may be a tendency to overpromise and underdeliver in this relationship. They see their partner as someone other than who they really are, which can cause issues later one when the rose-colored glasses are removed.

Mars square Pluto, Mars opposite Pluto

At first, this relationship can be quite enthralling and exciting.  The sensual connection between you is off the charts! Over time, however, issues related to power, control, and anger may surface in the relationship.

Mars is the planet of energy and assertiveness. Mars shows our drive and ambition, and how we project our energies. Pluto, on the other hand, is the planet of transformation and power. In this relationship, when the Mars person asserts their will in the relationship, the Pluto person pushes back even harder. Pluto may resort to manipulative games in order to keep the Mars person ‘in line’, which angers the Mars person even more.

In this relationship, strong feelings are evoked on both sides. Each partner really knows how to push each other’s buttons and get under each other’s skin. At worst, this aspect can indicate physical conflict and violence.

Rihanna and Chris: Together…Again?!

Is your love as attracted to you, as you are to him/her? Are you soul mates? Order a synastry report and find out now! astroladyconsultations@gmail.com

We recently found out that Rihanna and Chris Brown are back together. Again. Their reunion has sparked a lot of debate over whether she should have taken him back, considering the fact that he physically abused her. Let’s take a look at what the stars have to say about this controversial couple!

Rihanna’s Birth Chart

Rihanna has her Sun in Pisces. People with their Suns in this sign are known for their extreme compassion, sympathy, and forgiveness. Pisces is ruled by Neptune, the planet of delusion, self-sacrifice, and martyrdom. Pisceans tend to look for the best in people, and gloss over their faults. Pisceans tend to live in a dream world, and are often out of touch with reality. Pisces people are probably the most likely to stay in abusive relationships; they make excuses for their partners due to their habit of focusing on the positives. In fact,
they often see people for who they are not, which puts them at risk of ending up in relationships involving abuse, infidelity, and exploitation.

If this wasn’t enough, Rihanna’s chart features a Venus square Neptune aspect. This emphasizes Rihanna’s Piscean traits, especially in terms of her relationships. When you have Venus square Neptune in your
chart, the risk of idealization, delusion, and illusions  in regards to your relationships increases. This aspect indicates Rihanna tends to be blinded by love. She tends to see the best in Chris and ignores his faults. She makes excuses for Chris’ shortcomings, and is easily seduced by his advances. It is difficult to reason with individuals with this placement, especially when it comes to their love lives.
Pamela Anderson has this aspect in her chart. Her ex-husband, Tommy Lee, was very physically abusive towards her during their three-year marriage. Pamela eventually had him arrested, but was waiting outside
the jail for him the day he got out, and the two reconciled. Whitney Houston’s Sun and Venus are squared by her Natal Neptune, and we all remember her abusive relationship with Bobby Brown. We all wondered
why in the world she withstood Bobby’s abuse, but it becomes clear when you consider her natal chart.

Where Mars lands in our chart tells us the area in which we will experience aggression and conflict. In Rihanna’s chart, her Mars lands in her 7th house, the house of one-on-one partnerships, which indicates she experiences violence, abuse, and aggression in her relationships. Not surprisingly, Whitney Houston has Mars in her 7th house, as well. Rihanna’s Mars is conjunct her natal Uranus, which indicates her relationships contain sudden conflicts, as well as many sudden separations. Indeed, her and Chris have been on and off for years. Rihanna’s Mars is also conjunct her natal Saturn in her 7th house, which indicates she takes her relationships very seriously, and has tremendous staying power. She has tremendous determination in making her relationships work.

Chris Brown

Chris Brown has a heck of a lot of Taurus in his Chart; his Sun, Moon, and Venus are in this sign. Taurus is a fixed sign, meaning they are stubborn and resistant to change. If you’ve ever dated a Taurus guy, you know these guys tend to hold on. They are very possessive; they like knwoing someone is ‘theirs’, as it makes them feel secure. They are usually quite calm and cool, but can have explosive tempers.

Chris’ natal Pluto in Scorpio is opposite his stellium in Taurus. This explains the root of his temper perfectly. Oppositions in the natal chart signify the person has a difficult time integrating the energies of the opposing planets. As a result, the person tends to swing back and forth between them. In Chris’ case, his Pluto opposite Sun/Moon/Venus conjunction indicates his personality swings between the extremes of light and dark. This aspect indicates he he has power and control issues. With the opposition to his Sun and Moon, I
wouldn’t be surprised if Chris witnessed abuse via his parents. In fact, his natal Pluto is in his 4th house, with Scorpio on the cusp. This is a strong indicator of an abusive household. With his Venus opposite Pluto aspect, Chris has definite control issues when it comes to love. He is prone to jealousy, manipulation, domination, and yes, abuse. Since the opposition is in Taurus and Scorpio, he is highly possessive and controlling over his mates.

Incidentally, Bobby Brown also has Pluto opposite Venus in his natal chart.

Synastry

Chris’ Mars in Cancer opposes Rihanna’s Mars/Saturn/Uranus conjunction. This is a combative aspect, indeed! The Mars opposite Mars aspect is enough of an indicator of abuse on its own. This aspect indicates ego clashes, aggression, and a lack of understanding over each other’s temperaments. Rihanna’s Saturn in opposition to Chris’ Mars indicates the couple has explosive arguments stemming from criticism and insecurity. Rihanna’s Uranus in opposition to Chris’ Mars indicates a fair amount of unpredictability and uncontrollable impulsive actions towards each other.

Chris’ Neptune is square Rihanna’s Venus and Moon. In Chris, Rihanna feels she has found her soulmate. She makes excuses for his faults and sees the best in him. She is very forgiving towards him, and always
gives him the benefit of the doubt, even when it is not in her best interest.

Chris’ Saturn is also square Rihanna’s Venus and Moon. Saturn aspects are very binding, yet at the same time, difficult! When I think of Saturn aspects in synastry, I think of parent-child relationships. Indeed, Saturn represents the ‘father’ in astrology, so the Saturn person in the relationship often takes on a ‘parental’ role. Saturn increases one’s sense of responsibility to another, but on the negative side, it indicates emotional distancing, coldness, and a lack of affection, as well as restrictive and controlling behavior.

With this aspect, Rihanna beauty and overall personality bring out Chris’ greatest insecurities. As a result, Chris may become demanding of Rihanna, and may attempt to restrict her emotionally and socially. Chris may become jealous when Rihanna tries to have a social life outside of their relationship. Chris may think Rihanna is childish and irresponsible, while Rihanna may consider Chris overbearing and dictatorial. With this aspect in synastry, there is a great risk of the relationship turning into a loveless union devoid of affection.

Rihanna’s Mercury squares Chris’ Sun/Moon/Venus in Taurus, which indicates difficulty in communication. The couple has a difficult time expressing ideas, feelings and emotions.

On the plus side, Rihanna’s Sun is conjunct Chris’ North Node in his 7th house! No wonder he is so drawn to her! Rihanna is Chris’ idea of the perfect woman. With Chris’ North Node in his 7th house, his life’s path is strongly centered around his one-on-one relationships, such as romantic unions and marriage. With Rihanna’s Sun on this point, Chris feels Rihanna is pulling him forward, towards his destiny. Rihanna exemplifies the qualities Chris needs to evolve. This is a very powerful synastry aspect, which is felt especially strongly on Chris’ part.

Prediction:

It seems as though Chris met Rihanna while Neptune was transiting his North Node and her Sun. The nature of the relationship is usually described by the transits each person is experiencing at the time; the transits of each person highlight the important synastric connections between the couple. With Neptune on Chris’ North Node, it makes sense that he met Rihanna, a Pisces. With Neptune on Rihanna’s Sun, she probably fell for Chris instantly. During this transit, our sense of fantasy and dreaminess is stimulated. Rihanna is Neptunian as it is, but this transit intensified these qualities even more.

The fact that Rihanna entered an abusive relationship doesn’t surprise me, given the fact that transitingPluto has been conjunct her Neptune and square her natal Venus for the past while. Pluto transiting your Neptune is intensifies her delusional tendencies, which are already strong due to her strong Neptune placements and Pisces Sun.

Looking at their transits, I feel the couple may stay together for at least another year. If they break up, I believe it will be around October 2013, when Saturn conjuncts Chris’ natal Pluto and opposes his Sun/Moon/Venus conjunction in Taurus. At the same time, Saturn will square Rihanna’s Mercury, the ruler of her 1st house. At the same time, Saturn can indicate responsibility and commitment, so perhaps they will solidify their relationship in some way. Given the amount of squares and oppositions they will face around that time, a break-up seems more likely. Also, transiting Uranus will make an exact square to Rihanna’s Neptune at that time, which will serve to shake her out of any delusions she may be carrying, especially in terms of relationships.  By that time, Neptune will be finished transiting her Sun, which will help her gain clarity over her feelings and over the relationship.

Saturn in Synastry

Saturn aspects in synastry are notoriously difficult to handle. Saturn represents depression, restriction, fear of rejection, distancing, as well as commitment. Saturn aspects are certainly binding, but come with many problems.

Sun-Saturn in Synastry

My first ex boyfriend and I had strong Saturn aspects in our synastry chart. It made total sense, given the fact that Saturn was transiting my 7th house at the time. More specifically, my Saturn was conjunct his Sun in Scorpio.

My most recent ex had his Sun in Aquarius square my Saturn in Scorpio. Incidentally, he had Saturn transiting his 7th house when we were together.

Sun-Saturn aspects in synastry are apparently very common aspects to find in the synastry charts of married couples and long-term partners. Indeed, my relationships with those two lasted quite a few years, but it wasn’t without difficulty.

As the Saturn person, I felt both insecure and committed to each of them. Each one of them brought out many of my insecurities. Just by being themselves and expressing their individuality, my fears of rejection and getting hurt surfaced. In response, I criticized them and judged them harshly.

I wanted to dominate them, control them, and stomp on their fun. I didn’t want them to “grow”, because I was too afraid they would grow apart from me.

Another reason I was so critical of these two guys was because I genuinely thought their ideas, feelings, and beliefs were incredibly stupid. Sounds harsh, I know, but some of their opinions and beliefs simply pissed me off. Instead of calmly voicing my own opinions, I insulted theirs.

This, in turn, discouraged them greatly, but I felt I was doing them a favor. When I look back, I know I was a bit too harsh with them, but I felt (and STILL feel) they were childish and needed a good reality check.

The Sun-Saturn energy in synastry is much like the energy between a parent and child. In those two relationships, I felt that I was scolding my misbehaving children.

I was already into astrology when I met the Aquarius guy, so I knew this energy would manifest in our relationship somehow. I tried my best to keep my Saturnian energy in check, but when it came down to it, I simply couldn’t help but criticize him. Trust me- I tried.

On the other hand, the sextile and trine aspects work quite well. It increases the duty and responsibility you feel for each other, without it feeling like a huge burden.

Moon-Saturn aspects in Synastry

I recently came out of a relationship that had a Moon-Saturn opposition double-whammy. By “double-whammy”, I mean his Moon opposed my Saturn and his Saturn opposed my Moon.

How does this aspect play out between two people, you may ask? Let me tell you.

The way it manifested in my relationship was through major emotional distancing. Him and I would do anything to avoid talking about our feelings. Even when problems arose which made either one of us feel angry, annoyed, jealous, or frustrated, we would not, and COULD not, voice our feelings to one another.

I felt that if I told him how I felt, he would reject me, and he had the same fear. Even though I knew he had true feelings for me, self-doubt and fear of rejection would take over, and I’d end up keeping my feelings to myself. The same went for affection; affection did not flow easily between us due to deep-seated fears of rejection, which was ultimately frustrating for both parties.

Also, neither of us ever felt we could express our playful, romantic sides around one another; I felt he would not approve of any kind of childishness from me, so I kept my mouth shut.

On the positive side, this relationship is particular was my longest. I think one of the things that made us last so long was the desire to find out what the other person felt. The emotional distancing both frustrated and intrigued me.

I wanted to know what was in his heart, and he was dying to know how I felt. We both hung in there, hoping that one day, one of us would say how we truly felt about one another.

After a while, we learned to express our feelings to one another, but only in small segments. We were both careful to never uncover “too much” about the way we felt.

The sextile and trine are much easier to handle. It helps you both communicate your feelings and frustrations like grown adults. It definitely increases the likelihood you will stay together, as long as other aspects agree.

Mercury-Saturn in Synastry

Hard aspects (conjunction, square, opposition) from one person’s Mercury to another person’s Saturn indicates a deep respect for each other’s thinking processes and communication. However, it may feel as though there is a communication barrier between the two of you.

Saturn has a way of making Mercury feel as though she is not as intelligent or bright as the Saturn person. Saturn might “shut down” the ideas and opinions of the Mercury person through criticism and belittling, which can have a negative effect on the Mercury person’s self-confidence.

Indeed, Mercury might feel self-conscious and awkward when expressing herself to the Saturn person. Saturn may tend to ignore, interrupt, or criticize Mercury when Mercury is speaking. Saturn might be silent often. Conversations are serious, and words do not flow easily.

In one of my previous relationships, my Mercury squared his Saturn. Mercury rules my 7th house, so communication is very important to me when it comes to relationships.

I felt he belittled my opinions and ideas to the point of condescension. He was also much older than me, so he seemed even more patronizing. I definitely felt self-conscious when expressing my ideas to him; I was afraid he would think I was “stupid.”

The harmonious aspects (sextile, trine) between Mercury and Saturn are much easier to handle. The Saturn person gives structure to the Mercury person’s ideas. Saturn also gives practical advice to Mercury, and listens and guides the Mercury person.

Mercury looks up to Saturn, and Saturn enjoys helping the Mercury person. Through Saturn, Mercury learns how to communicate in a more mature and level-headed way.

Venus-Saturn in synastry

My longest relationship featured a tight Saturn square Venus aspect in synastry, wherein I was the Venus person.

This is often known as the “unrequited love” aspect. Why? Saturn represents blockages and restrictions, which can manifest in many forms.

Sometimes, the blockages come from external forces. Saturn rules tradition, so couples with this synastry aspect sometimes face opposition from either person’s family.

In my case, I was of a different cultural background than my partner. His parents were very traditional and strict, and would have never have approved of our union.

Other external restrictions can include a mismatch in terms of age, social status, cultural background, or distance. Either way, there’s usually something in the way of you being together.

Another way in which this manifested was through a withdrawal of affection. I never felt quite comfortable cuddling him, telling him I loved him, or making baby talk with him due to my fear that he would reject that kind of behavior.

I censored my feelings of affection for him, and he did the same. He acted somewhat “fatherly” towards me, and I didn’t want to risk his disapproval. Though he never explicitly told me he didn’t want me to go out and have fun with my friends, he would often try to interfere with my plans if he knew I was going out.

The soft aspects, such as trine and sextile, between Venus and Saturn are ideal in a relationship. Saturn represents commitment and responsibility, while Venus represents love. It is not surprising that so many good relationships have positive Venus- Saturn aspects.

Mars-Saturn in Synastry

This is a very negative aspect to share with someone in synastry, if the aspect is harsh (conjunction, square, opposition).

With this aspect, it seems that no matter what the Mars person does, the Saturn person is bothered. Nothing is ever “good enough” for Saturn. The Saturn person usually sees the Mars person as childish and irresponsible.

The Mars person’s energy is the sort that makes the Saturn person very uncomfortable. More specifically, the Mars person’s self-confidence and assertiveness brings out Saturn’s insecurities, and in response, the Saturn person attempts to restrict and limit the Mars person’s actions by telling Mars what to do.

Saturn may resort to constantly tearing the Mars person down through criticism and psychological abuse.

It is common for Mars to feel Saturn is condescending and treats Mars like a child. Mars may become angry with this and lash out at the Saturn person. The cycle of criticism and conflict can soon become a vicious cycle.

This aspect lends itself to verbally abusive relationships, and can even escalate into physical aggression.

Since Mars is the planet of sex and physical energy, this aspect can also manifest into sexual problems for the couple. Saturn may find the sex disappointed, and Mars may sense this, and lose their sexual confidence.

This is an aspect often found in the synastry charts of sexless marriages.

In the case of the trine or sextile, a good physical compatibility is indicated. The two of you do not feel blocked by each other, but you become more cautious as a result of this relationship (particularly on the part of the Mars person).

Mars-Saturn Aspects in Synastry

In Astrology, Mars represents sex and aggressiveness, while Saturn represents restriction, discipline, and control.

When there are hard aspects (conjunction, square, opposition) between Mars and Saturn in synastry, it seems that no matter what the Mars person does, the Saturn person is bothered. Nothing is ever “good enough” for Saturn. The Saturn person usually sees the Mars person as childish and irresponsible.  The Mars person’s energy is the sort that makes the Saturn person very uncomfortable.

The harmonious aspects (trine, sextile), on the other hand, are much easier to handle. In this case, Saturn acts like a rock for the Mars person. The Saturn person is always there to support the Mars person, which Mars finds very comforting. Predictability and stability characterize the partnership. The Saturn person calms the Mars person down, while the Mars person introduces new ways of doing things to the Saturn person. Overall, this is a very positive aspect.
