The North Node in Synastry

Sun conjunct North Node

When your Sun is conjunct your partner’s North Node, a strong bond exists between the two of you. This aspect indicates a relationship that is constantly moving forward. This aspect indicates the two of you are “new” to each other in this lifetime.

If there are no South Node Aspects between the two of you and only North Node connection, it implies that the two of you have no past karma to work out. Indeed, the two of you have a “clean slate” upon which to build your relationship.

The Sun person encapsulates the qualities the North Node person requires in order to fulfill their life’s purpose. Thus, developing each other’s strengths and talents is the hallmark of this relationship.

The couple can help one another in furthering their career and social ambitions. The willingness to invest in the relationship is present, due to the fact that they feel they are “going somewhere” with each other.

Depending on where the North Node person “is” in his or her life will dictate how this relationship will unfold. The relationship also strongly depends on whether the Nodal person relates well to their North Node. Regardless, the Nodal person is likely to feel somewhat uneasy in the presence of the Sun person, mostly because the Sun person brings the Node person out of their comfort zone. Is the Nodal person ready to grow, or is he not?

Nevertheless, the North Node is undoubtedly strongly drawn towards the Sun person, and vice-versa. Indeed, the North Node person feels a fated “pull” towards the Sun person.

The North Node certainly feels there is a future with the Sun person and is attracted to the growth the relationship represents.

Moon conjunct North Node

When your Moon is conjunct your partner’s North Node, or vice-versa, an intense emotional attraction is indicated. This connection is distinctly emotional and penetrating.

It creates a strong emotional attachment which makes it possible to overcome the things that ruin other relationships.

The two of you may feel as though the relationship was “meant to be.” The Moon person offers support, care, and nurturing to the North Node person.

The Moon person strives to provide safety and security to the North Node person, as well. The North Node person is glad to receive the Moon person’s support and love.

The cycle of giving and receiving support and love will be a main theme in your relationship. However, the Moon person is likely to give a disproportionate amount of support to the North Node person, in comparison to how much the Moon person receives in return.

This is because the North Node person is learning how to express these qualities, and may feel they are exploring new ground in doing so.

Mercury conjunct North Node

When your Mercury conjunct your partner’s North Node, or vice-versa, a strong intellectual connection is indicated. Communication between the two of you is likely to be excellent (notwithstanding hard aspects to either person’s Mercury).

The two of you enjoy communicating and exchanging ideas. The North Node person is highly receptive to the Mercury person’s ideas, and admires their intellect.

The Mercury person opens up the North Node person’s mind to different ways of thinking. Indeed, it is the Mercury person’s role in this relationship to guide the Node person to their future, in regards to ideas and communication.

On the downside, the Mercury person communicates in a way that may make the North Node person feel slightly uneasy or uncomfortable. As such, the North Node person may feel exhausted at the amount of mental activity that goes on between the couple, as the North Node person has to put in a considerable amount of effort in order to keep up with the Mercury person.

Venus conjunct North Node

When your Venus is conjunct your partner’s North Node, or vice-versa, an instant attraction is indicated. The desire to impress or inspire one another is strong, due to the fact that the couple feels they are “going somewhere” together.

Many astrologers, like Celeste Teal, insist that when this aspect is present in synastry, the individuals are setting the stage for a future meeting, and that the likelihood of a real relationship forming in this lifetime is unlikely.

In my personal experience, I’ve found this to be true. Perhaps barriers to love exist between the two of them, which deny the formation of a love relationship. Perhaps the Node person doesn’t feel “ready” to embrace the qualities the Venus person represents because it makes them feel out of their comfort zone.

However, if there are other strong aspects (especially to either person’s Nodes), the likelihood of forming a lasting relationship in this lifetime is increased.

Regardless, the couple enjoys spending time with one another. The North Node person is strongly attracted to the Venus person’s beauty, grace, and charm. The two of you easily cooperate with one another, and a feeling of comfort and ease was probably instant.

I have had this connection in Synastry, wherein my North Node was conjunct his Venus. The attraction certainly was immediate, but very short-lived, at least on my part!

We had a 2-month fling, which ended with me cutting him out of my life very abruptly. I suddenly lost all attraction to him, which was followed by a prompt good-bye. He e-mailed me for about 2 months after the sudden separation, expressing his disappointment and sorrow.

At the time, I was still in love with a man with whom I had a Venus-South Node connection, so perhaps I was too comfortable with my South Node guy to even consider jumping out of my comfort zone.

Mars conjunct North Node

When your Mars is conjunct your partner’s North Node, or vice-versa, a stimulating, action-oriented connection is indicated. The Mars person motivates the North Node person and encourages the North Node person to take action.

The North Node person may become frustrated with the Mars person, especially if the North Node person is not ready to follow Mars’ direction. In addition, the Node person may find the Mars person overly pushy or aggressive, which may turn the Node person off.

Regardless, this connection promises a dramatic and fiery union. The Node person is strongly attracted to the Node person’s drive and ambition. If other synastry aspects agree, this aspect also indicates a strong amount of physical desire and passion.

On the downside, conflict, and even violent situations, may plague your relationship due to the combative and aggressive nature of Mars. Though a physical attraction is indicated by this aspect, the sexual style of the Mars person may make the Node person feel uncomfortable.

Indeed, since North Node aspects represent the “future,” perhaps the sexual exchange between the couple is too “new,” and will thus require a lot of work to ensure mutual satisfaction.

Jupiter conjunct North Node

When your Jupiter is conjunct your partners’ North Node, or vice-versa, an relationship based on mutual generosity and good-will is indicated. The couple is likely to share common philosophical and religious beliefs, which can go a long way in maintaining a long-term relationship.

Jupiter may provide the Node person with material wealth, good luck, support, and spiritual guidance. Indeed, this is an ideal aspect in the charts of guru-discliple or teacher-student relationships.

Check the house to see where the conjunction resides. This is the area where the Jupiter person brings the Node Person the most luck. For example, is the conjunction resides in the 2nd house of the North Node person’s chart, the Jupiter person will bring the Node person a lot of luck in regards to money and material wealth.

Saturn conjunct North Node

When your Saturn is conjunct your partner’s North Node, you bring restriction, discipline, and structure into your partner’s life. Indeed, this is a very serious union!

On the good side, the Saturn person can help the North Node person achieve success and teach them how to be responsible. Indeed, Saturn brings out North Node’s mature side.

On the downside, maintaining this relationship can be difficult, due to its heavy and serious nature. The Node person may feel the relationship is burdensome, while the Saturn person may feel the Node person is irresponsible and childish.

In addition, external forces may prevent the two of you from fully forming a romantic bond in this lifetime.

At the same time, if other synastry aspects support the formation of a romantic relationship, the depth of responsibility and commitment to one another can bind you together for a long time. The likelihood of the two of you staying together also depends on how the North Node person responds to Saturnian energy.

If the North Node person’s chart is “Saturn-friendly” (i.e. if there are several aspects to Saturn, or if there are planets in Capricorn), the Node person may find it easier to go the distance with the Saturn person.

Uranus conjunct North Node

Uranus conjunct North Node Synastry This aspect is a very interesting one. The North Node person shares this aspect with most people around the Node person’s age, but it does not mean the aspect is insignificant.

Uranus in conjunction to another person’s North Node shows the Uranus’ person’s individuality, uniqueness, and raw genius help bring the North Node person closer to their true path in life. The North Node shows the qualities we need to develop in this life, as opposed to the South Node which shows the qualities that are already developed and ingrained within us.

The North Node feels uncomfortable; it is outside of our comfort zone, so it can feel quite scary.  Uranus has a very abrupt and erratic energy, so the North Node person may feel a lot of progress very suddenly and unexpectedly. The Uranus person is like a guru who brings the Node person closer to their true purpose.

For example, say your North Node is in your 1st house. In this life, the North Node is calling on you to embrace your individuality and focus on yourself, rather than being dependent on partnerships and relationships. If someone’s Uranus is on your North Node, the Uranus person might inspire you to radically change your appearance and embrace what makes you unique.

It may feel weird for you to focus on yourself and your needs so much, but the Uranus person’s energy makes it hard for you to do otherwise.

Neptune conjunct North Node

Neptune conjunct North Node Synastry indicates a relationship full of idealism, compassion, and fantasy. Neptune can bring a sweet, dream-life energy to the relationship, but can also bring deception and disillusionment. The North Node person and Neptune person feel a strong pull to one another, and it feels natural for them to be together.

In this relationship, the Neptune person’s compassionate and spiritual nature brings the North Node person closer to their life’s true path. The North Node person idealizes the Neptune person greatly, and may see them as a spiritual guide or guru of some sort.

On the downside, the Neptune person may be deceiving the Node person in some way, or the Node person may deceive themselves in regards to their relationship with the Node person.

For example, say you have your North Node in the 7th house. Usually, you are very self-focused and think about your own needs. In this life, you are being called on to share your life with someone, to learn how to compromise and cooperate with a partner.

If someone’s Neptune is on your 7th house North Node, you want to be in a relationship with them. This may feel uncomfortable for you, but you feel a pull towards them. Through this relationship, you learn about how to be in a relationship and how to compromise with a partner.

The Neptune person’s sensitivity, compassion, and unconditional love allows you to explore your North Node potential.

Given the nature of Neptune, the relationship may be marred with deception or disillusionment, particularly on the part of the Node person (check the rest of the synastry and the Neptune person’s natal chart to determine this).

On the good side, as long as these two are honest with each other, this relationship could last a lifetime.

Pluto conjunct North Node

Pluto conjunct North Node Synastry indicates a powerful connection between the individuals. If your partner’s Pluto is conjunct your North Node, this means that everyone born within a few years of the Pluto person will have their Pluto conjunct your North Node. However, this does not mean this aspect is insignificant.

The North Node’s sign and house placement represent the areas we are meant to develop in our lifetime. The energy represented by the North Node feels uncomfortable to us, as it represents qualities that are not already developed within us.

When someone’s Pluto is conjunct your North Node, you feel a very strong pull towards them. This connection is primal and raw in nature.

Relationships with this aspect are deep, complicated and transformative for both parties, especially the Node person. The Pluto person touches the Node person deeply, and transforms them from the inside out.

The Pluto person, of course, feels very intensely for the North Node person, and helps them regenerate and evolve into the highest version of themselves.

At the same time, Pluto contacts are not always easy, and usually involve some level of manipulation, power struggles and control issues. Also, the Pluto person may be very pushy or manipulative due to their desire to change and transform the Node person.

In some cases, the North Node person may feel very drained and frustrated by the connection, as they may find the power struggles exhausting or unproductive. The two partners may feel they bring out the worst in each other in some ways.

Despite this, the partners have a strong bond between them, which makes breaking up very difficult. This aspect is powerful and may bond the partners together for a long time, but this depends a lot on other factors in the chart.

It is very important to check the house of the conjunction in each person’s chart. Say my North Node is in the 9th house: in this life, I am meant to develop the areas of my life represented by that house, such as travel, philosophy, and higher learning.

If someone’s Pluto is on my 9th house North Node, this means they have a transformative effect on this area of my life. I might have transformative experiences abroad with the Pluto person, or they influence or convert me to their religion or philosophy.

In the beginning, there is a true feeling of ‘going somewhere’ and developing with the Pluto person. However, over time, I may feel the Pluto person is a bit too controlling over these areas of my life. Perhaps I grow tired of the Pluto person always deciding on where our next vacation will be, or perhaps I’d like to explore other religions or worldviews on my own.

The Pluto person may perceive this as a loss of his power over me, which may lead the Pluto person to begin manipulating me or playing games to get back their upper hand. Over time, this could become quite exhausting for both parties, but a fear of losing each other probably keeps these two together longer than they should.

Overall, this is an incredibly powerful and binding aspect to share with someone. Both partners are transformed deeply by this relationship, and the relationship could last a lifetime if both partners focus on equality and mutual respect.

North Node conjunct North Node (South Node Conjunct South Node)

The conjunction of one person’s Node to another person’s Node indicates an alignment of fate and destiny between the two partners. There is a feeling of ‘growing together’ in this relationship. The two of you likely feel very comfortable with each other, given the conjunction of your South Nodes.

This indicates a past-life connection, so there may be a sense of familiarity between the two of you.

In your past lives, you both developed and perfected the qualities of your South Node. For example, if your South Node is in Pisces, you were strongly spiritual and compassionate in your previous life, but may have had difficulty with productivity and routines.

In this life, you are being called on by your Virgo North Node to develop better routines and a strong work ethic, and to become more proactive and health conscious in your life.

When your Nodes are conjunct, the two of you are heading in the same direction, and you relate to each other quite well. The two of you share the same ingrained behaviours, but also are on the same path to development.

The South Node conjunction can make the two of you feel very comfortable with each other, but you also challenge each other to move past your comfort zones.

Overall, this is a great aspect to share with someone in a chart. Check the North Node houses for each person in order to determine how the two of you will manifest your destiny!
