How to read a Synastry Chart

The Synastry chart is one of the most important tools to use when assessing compatibility between two people.

The two areas you want to focus on are: house overlays and planetary aspects.

House overlays

What are houses? Our natal charts are divided up into 12 houses, which each represent a different area of our life:

Here is a breakdown of what each house represents

  • The first house: represents the self, one’s persona, and one’s physical appearance
  • The second house: represents finances, income, material possessions, and self-worth
  • The third house: represents communications, neighbourhood, siblings, learning, local travel
  • The fourth house represents: family, home, past, ancestry, real estate
  • The fifth house represents: children, creativity, romance, fun, leisure
  • The sixth house represents: work, health, coworkers. productivity
  • The seventh house represents: partnership (business and romantic), commitment, sharing, equality
  • The eighth house represents: intimacy, death, transformation, other people’s money, taxes
  • The ninth house represents: travel, higher learning, philosophy, religion
  • The tenth house represents: career, social status, public reputation
  • The eleventh house represents: friends, groups, long-term goals
  • The twelfth house represents: spirituality, solitude, dreams, illusions

What are planets? Our natal charts contain 10 planets. Each represents a different aspect of our personality.

Here is a simple breakdown of what each planet represents

  • Sun: Your basic personality, ego, individuality
  • Moon: your emotional nature and what makes you feel secure
  • Mercury: your communication style and intellectual interests
  • Venus: your love style, what you find beautiful, your personal style
  • Mars: your determination, passion, and sex drive
  • Jupiter: represents expansion, generosity and luck
  • Saturn: represents structure, maturity, commitment, restriction
  • Uranus: represents instability, freedom, unpredictability
  • Neptune: represents illusions, compassion, sensitivity
  • Pluto: represents transformation, obsession, jealousy, power

When comparing two charts, you can see where each person’s planets land in another person’s chart.

For this exercise, let’s look at Kim and Ye’s Synastry. I generated this report on astro.com:

When assessing synastry, check to see where your personal planets fall in the other person’s chart:

  • When someone’s planet falls into one of your houses, they bring the energy of that planet into your house.
  • As you can see from their chart, Ye’s Sun/Jupiter conjunction resides in Kim’s 7th house of partnership and commitment– this is an excellent indication of compatibility and marriage. Ye’s Venus and Mars reside in Kim’s 5th house, which is a great indication of romance and having children.
  • Kim’s Sun resides in Ye’s 4th house of home and family. This is again a great indication of a long-lasting relationship

In a romantic relationship, focus on looking for overlays in the following houses:

  • The first house: another person’s planets falling in your 1st house indicate they are very attracted to you. This is especially powerful if the Sun, Moon, Venus or Mars are in another person’s 1st house, as they are deeply personal planets and increase attraction.
  • The fourth house: represents home, family, and emotions. When someone’s planets fall in your 4th house, they feel like family to you, and you enjoy spending time together at home. This is an indication of wanting to build a home and family together.
  • The fifth house: represents romance, children, and fun, so someone’s planets falling in this house is a great aspect.
  • The seventh house: represents commitment, partnership, equality, etc., so it is obviously a very important house to consider in a synastry chart. If someone’s planets fall in your 7th house, you feel compelled to partner with them. They teach you about compromise, relating, and partnership.
  • The eighth house: represents deep intimacy and bonding, so overlays to this house are very powerful and transformative. These types of relationships are not for the faint of heart, but are ultra intense and sexy (if you like that kind of thing).

Planetary Aspects

After looking at house overlays, it is equally important to look at the aspects each person’s planets make the other persons’ planets.

To make things easy, you can generate reports in astro.com by clicking PDF Additional Tables after generating a report.

Reports like these make is easier to assess your planetary overlays with someone:

In this table, you might not recognize the symbols and numbers.

The symbols within the table show the aspect each planet is making to the other. For example, Ye’s Sun is square Kim’s Venus. Check out this article to learn what the symbols represent. The ones you want to focus on most are: Conjunction, Square, Opposition, Trine, and Sextile.

  • Sextiles and trines are nice, harmonious aspects, and are great to see in a chart.
  • Conjunctions are very powerful, and show compatibility between the energies each planet represents.
  • Oppositions can be problematic, but are usually very fascinating. This is a case of ‘opposites attract’.
  • Squares are considered the most problematic, as they cause friction and lack of understanding between the parties.

If you are looking to assess romantic, long-term compatibility with someone, it is very important to look at how each person’s Love planets are aspected in a chart.

Generally, squares from Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto are not looked upon very favourably, especially if they make an aspect to someone’s personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars).

Check out my synastry articles to read about specific aspects.

It is also extremely important to look at how someone’s planets aspect your 7th house ruler. What is your 7th house ruler?

  • If your 1st house is in Aries, the Composite 7th house ruler is Venus
  • If your 1st house is in Taurus, the Composite 7th house ruler is Pluto
  • If your 1st house is in Gemini, the Composite 7th house ruler is Jupiter
  • If your 1st house is in Cancer, the Composite 7th house ruler is Saturn
  • If your 1st house is in Leo, the Composite house ruler is Uranus
  • If your 1st house is in Virgo, the Composite house ruler is Neptune
  • If your 1st house is in Libra, the Composite house ruler is Mars
  • If your 1st house is in Scorpio, the Composite house ruler is Venus
  • If your 1st house is in Sagittarius, the Composite 7th house ruler is Mercury
  • If your 1st house is in Capricorn, the Composite 7th house ruler is the Moon
  • If your 1st house is in Aquarius, the Composite 7th house ruler is the Sun
  • If your 1st house is in Pisces, the Composite 7th house ruler is Mercury

In my opinion, this is the most important planet to look at when considering long-term compatibility.

All in all, synastry aspects and overlays are extremely important to consider in a synastry chart. However, I believe the Composite Chart is more essential to assess long-term compatibility. Click here to read my article on The Best Composite Chart Aspects.

Natal Neptune in the 1st house

Neptune is the planet of dreams, illusions, deception, spirituality, and compassion. It is the natural ruler of the 12th house and Pisces.

The house placement of your natal Neptune shows where you are elusive or idealistic, whether you mean to be or not! Not only does Neptune lead to deceiving others, but it usually begins with self-deception. Neptune is cloudy, hazy, and vague, so we have trouble understanding the Neptune influences in our charts, as well.

In this article, I discuss what it’s like to have Neptune in the 1st house.

What is the 1st house?

The first house represents our outer self. It is the face we wear when we face the world, and what others see when they first meet you. The first house represents our appearance, clothing, and our expressions. It is the mask through which everything in our lives is filtered.

What is Neptune?

As mentioned before, Neptune is the natural ruler of the 12th house and Pisces. It has a vague and confusing energy, as Neptune, by nature, is very hard to define or pin down. This planet rules everything dreamy, ethereal, and other-worldly. Neptune rules illusions and fantasy, and represents the area you experience the most confusion, deception, and perhaps the ways you deceive others.

multicolor galaxy sky clouds stars astrologyImage by rawpixel.com on Freepik

Neptune is dreamy and spiritual, but can bring clouds of confusion

Neptune in the first house

This subject is personal to me because I have this aspect in my own natal chart! My Neptune is in Capricorn, and given how long Neptune stays in one sign, everyone born within a few years of me has their Neptune in my first house, as well. How does this affect my life?

Go with the Flow…

Neptune is a very sensitive and adaptable planet, so people with this planet in their first house tend to project a very gentle, dreamy vibe. As the natural ruler of Pisces, Neptune likes to ‘go with the flow’ and is relatively agreeable in nature.

Further to this, Neptune in the first house indicates someone who is very adaptable to new situations. Neptune likes peace and tranquility, so Neptune in the first house natives are unlikely to rock the boat. Others see them as gentle, sweet, and compassionate people.

Sensitivity

With Neptune in the 1st house, you are a very sensitive person. You pick up on the moods and vibes of others easily, and usually feel uncomfortable with conflict and confrontation.

This, coupled with your vulnerable and dreamy physical appearance, may lead people to believe it is easy to take advantage of you. People with this aspect must be very careful and steer clear of deceptive people who want to use or abuse them. There may be a tendency to attract narcissistic or needy types who drain you, as well.

As a result, Neptune in the 1st house people need a lot of time alone to recharge from the outer world. They absorb a lot from their environments, so it is extremely important to take care of themselves by taking a break.

Social Chameleon…

Given the chameleon-like nature of Neptune, you might show different people different sides of you. As a result, you may end up feeling no one knows who you really are. For example, my best friends describe me as a Type-A, clean-freak, “prim and proper” type.  This could not be further from the truth.

Why do they think this? Are they projecting onto me, or have I unknowingly displayed these qualities to them?

Neptune is sensitive and empathetic, but I think there is also a bit of a people-pleasing element to it, as well.

Perhaps people are projecting their fantasies or ideals onto me, and I can feel this, so I play along so as to not disappoint them.

Lack of self-definition…

With Neptune in the 1st house, it can also be difficult for YOU to know the real you! Above, I talked about the tendency for other people to project qualities onto you. You might project different energies to different people, depending on your intuition.

But… Do you know who you really are?

While you adapt to new situations and people easily, it can be difficult for you to know your true self under all of those other projections. When someone asks you, “Who are you?”, what do you say? Is it easy for you to answer, or do you get stumped?

“You Look Lost”…

I want to know: How many Neptune in the 1st house people hear the phrase “You look lost” regularly?

Personally, this happens to me a lot.

Neptune gives off a very dreamy, confused vibe, so you might attract those who want to help you in some way. You might subconsciously project an air of helplessness or vulnerability without meaning to. For instance, my ex told me I look very ‘fragile’ – I’m not sure why that is! I also find that others tend to misread my signals or moods regularly, which is very frustrating, as I always feel I need to explain myself to others.

Glamorous Beauty…

In addition to “looking lost”, the placement of Neptune in the 1st house can manifest in many ways in regards to one’s appearance. Most with this placement give off a mysterious and glamourous vibe to others.

Neptune is the natural ruler of Pisces, which opposes Virgo. Virgoan beauty is clean, natural, and uncomplicated, while Pisces beauty is just the opposite.

It is not uncommon to see Neptune in the 1st house of models and celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Marilyn Monroe, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Cruise, and Cristiano Ronaldo.  Neptune is the higher octave of Venus, so this placement can endow the native with glamorous, ethereal, other-worldly beauty.

At the same time, Neptune can indicate major body dysmorphia, given the confusing and deceptive energy of the planet. There is also a strong self-consciousness about one’s image and appearance.

As a result, people with this placement might turn to make-up and cosmetic procedures so that they can live up to their ideal beauty standards. There may be a tendency to hide your true physical self with this aspect.

Uranus aspects in Synastry

Uranus represent change, liberation, and instability. In synastry, it can bring an exciting, yet chaotic energy to the relationship, and encourages both partners to embrace their uniqueness and individuality. At the same time, Uranus is unpredictable and chaotic, which might not suit those who enjoy stability in their relationships.

In this article, we go over how Uranus expresses itself when it aspect to another person’s planets. Keep reading to learn more!

Uranus-Uranus Aspects

When someone’s Uranus is conjunct your Uranus, you are around the same age! Uranus takes 84 years to orbit the Sun, so you also share this aspect with people who are that much older than you. This aspect indicates you reinforce each other’s uniqueness and individuality in whatever area your Uranus represents.

For example, if I have Uranus in my 11th house, it means I attract eccentric, unique friends. Someone’s Uranus in this house means they might be one of my unique friends, or may introduce me to other friends like them.

Uranus sextile or trine someone else’s Uranus indicates an appreciation for each other’s uniqueness and individuality. The two of you have a mutual respect for each other’s ‘out-there’ ideas and give each other plenty of space.

Uranus square or opposite someone else’s Uranus can be problematic, particularly if Uranus features strongly in each of their charts. This aspect indicates the two partners are very different when it comes to independence, uniqueness, individuality, and freedom.

For example, my Uranus is in Sagittarius seeks ‘freedom’ through travel, philosophy, and being as independent as possible. If my partner had Uranus in Pisces, this mean they seek ‘freedom’ through spirituality, arts, and helping others.

As a result, there may be a feeling of ‘getting in each other’s way’ when each person wants to express their individuality; Sagittarius wants to travel and roam, while Pisces wants to meditate and connect with their inner world. It is difficult for these two to find a way for them both to express their individuality and freedom when they are with each other.

You must look at what house Uranus rules in each person’s chart to assess these aspects properly. For example, if Uranus rules one person’s 7th house, a square from another person’s Uranus could spell trouble for the couple. The couple may not be able to commit to each other or settle down into a predictable or stable relationship due to this aspect.

Uranus-Neptune Aspects

When someone’s Uranus is conjunct your Neptune, an exciting, spiritual relationship is indicated. The Uranus person awakens the Neptune person’s intuitive powers, and shows Neptune new and innovative ways of harnessing their compassion and spirituality. The Neptune person provides understanding and compassion for Uranus’ uniqueness and individuality, and is charmed by Uranus’ quirky and eccentric nature.

Uranus sextile or trine someone else’s Neptune indicates a relationship full of spiritual connection and understanding. The Uranus person helps the Neptune person innovate their spiritual world, while the Neptune person provides compassion and understanding to the Uranus person.

Uranus square or opposite someone else’s Neptune can be problematic. This aspect indicates the Uranus person has a very disruptive effect on Neptune’s realm of spirituality, dreams, and compassion. At the same time, the Uranus person feels the Neptune person is too idealistic.

When Neptune wants to be dreamy and spiritual with the Uranus person, Uranus might want to rebel, which may make the Neptune person feel they cannot rely on the Uranus person. When the Uranus person wants to display their uniqueness and individuality, they might not find understanding or support with the Neptune person. Both partners may feel the other doesn’t understand the other.

You must look at what house Uranus and Neptune rule in their respective charts to assess these aspects properly. For example, if Neptune rules one person’s 7th house, a square from another person’s Uranus could spell trouble for the couple. The couple may not be able to commit to each other or settle down into a predictable or stable relationship due to this aspect.

Uranus-Pluto Aspects

When someone’s Uranus is conjunct your Pluto, an explosive relationship is indicated. Uranus and Pluto are both outer planets, but their energies differ greatly. Uranus represents freedom, uniqueness, individuality, raw genius and progress, while Pluto represents control, intensity, intimacy, transformation, and death. In combination, this aspect could lead to a powerfully exciting relationship, but could also lead to explosive arguments and power struggles.

At first, the Uranus person feels their Uranian qualities intensified by the Pluto person, while the Pluto person find the Uranus person exciting and inspiring. However, over time, these two may become irritated with each other. Uranus might not like the way Pluto tries to control the way they express their uniquess, while Pluto may find the Uranus person unreliable and difficult to control.

Uranus sextile or trine someone else’s Pluto indicates an exciting and transformative relationship. These two encourage each other’s strengths and uniquess, and find innovated ways to connect more deeply with each other.

Uranus square or opposite someone else’s Pluto can be problematic. Much like the conjunction, this aspect can bring about issues about control vs. freedom. The Uranus person in this case may feel very ‘caged in’ by the Pluto person, and does not appreciate Pluto’s attempts to change or transform the way they express their uniqueness or individuality.

The Pluto person wants to merge and connect deeply with the Uranus person, but feels the Uranus person is too unreliable and unpredictable to do so. Pluto requires complete and utter commitment and loyalty, which is not something Uranus can give.

You must look at what house Uranus and Pluto rule in their respective charts to assess these aspects properly. For example, if Pluto rules one person’s 7th house, a square from another person’s Uranus could spell trouble for the couple. The couple may not be able to commit to each other or settle down into a predictable or stable relationship due to this aspect.

Another example: If Uranus rules someone’s 1st house, and Pluto makes a square to it, the Pluto person may try to control or transform the way the Uranus person’s appearance in some way.

Uranus-North Node Synastry

This aspect is a very interesting one. The North Node person shares this aspect with most people around the Node person’s age, but it does not mean the aspect is insignificant.

Uranus in conjunction to another person’s North Node shows the Uranus’ person’s individuality, uniqueness, and raw genius help bring the North Node person closer to their true path in life. The North Node shows the qualities we need to develop in this life, as opposed to the South Node which shows the qualities that are already developed and ingrained within us. The North Node feels uncomfortable; it is outside of our comfort zone, so it can feel quite scary.

Uranus has a very abrupt and erratic energy, so the North Node person may feel a lot of progress very suddenly and unexpectedly. The Uranus person is like a guru who brings the Node person closer to their true purpose.

For example, say your North Node is in your 1st house. In this life, the North Node is calling on you to embrace your individuality and focus on yourself, rather than being dependent on partnerships and relationships. If someone’s Uranus is on your North Node, the Uranus person might inspire you to radically change your appearance and embrace what makes you unique. It may feel weird for you to focus on yourself and your needs so much, but the Uranus person’s energy makes it hard for you to say no.

Uranus-South Node Synastry

This aspect indicates a past life connection that was rather unstable or unpredictable. The South Node person shares this aspect with most people around the Node person’s age, but it does not mean the aspect is insignificant.

Uranus on another person’s South Node indicates the couple feel very familiar with each other, as they have met in a past life. The Uranus person probably entered the South Node person’s life suddenly and unexpectedly. The South Node person may feel a sense of liberation or freedom in the relationship with the Uranus person, as the Uranus person encourages the South Node person to look at themselves in a new way.

At the same time, this relationship may feel very unstable and ungrounded, given Uranus’ unpredictable energy. Though this relationship may start and end very abruptly, the lessons they learn from each other last a lifetime. As with all South Node connections, this relationship may begin to feel draining for both partners. The South Node tends to ‘feed’ on any planet that touches it, so the Uranus person may eventually become drained, while the Node person may feel held back.

For example, if your South Node is in your 7th house, it means you concentrated a lot on the needs of others in the past, and in this life, you are called on to embrace independence and individuality. Someone’s Uranus on your 7th house South Node brings a familiar energy to you; you are used to putting energy into your relationships and considering other people’s needs.

Your Uranus person brings an exciting energy to your relationship sector, and may even help you learn new and innovative ways of having a relationship. However, the relationship might be quite erratic and unpredictable over time, which might be quite draining for the 7th house person, as they do not feel they can rely on the Uranus person. The Uranus person may feel a ‘pull’ towards the South Node person, but may also eventually feel drained, leading to a rebellion and subsequent break up.

Saturn-Saturn Aspects

Saturn in conjunction to another person’s Saturn indicates the two of you are similar in your attitudes towards hard work, responsibility, and duty. The house placement of each person’s Saturn (and its house rulership) will tell you where your partner reaffirms your Saturnian qualities.

On the downside, Saturn can be quite resistant to change and likes to maintain the status quo, and also represents the area where we feel we ‘lack’ something.

For example, my Saturn is in my 11th house, which indicates I am not fond of large groups and keep my social circle tight. Someone with Saturn conjunct my Saturn would reaffirm my attitudes towards groups and friends, and perhaps I would become even more anti-social as a result of my relationship with this person.

Or, perhaps they will be an absent or distant friend, which would reaffirm my desire to keep my social circle very small. Interestingly enough, the friendships I made during my school years never lasted, and I tended to befriend people who were younger or older than me (i.e. those who didn’t have Saturn in my 11th house).

Another example: my Saturn is in my 3rd house, which means I have self-conscious about communicating and I am insecure about sharing my ideas. If someone’s Saturn is in my 3rd house, they might interrupt me or talk over me a lot, which makes me shut up even more.

Saturn sextile or trine another person’s Saturn acts similarly to the conjunction, but there is less of a ‘stuck’ or repressed energy. This is because in the case of the sextile or trine, they have their Saturn in a sign that is compatible with their partner’s Saturn. In this case, each partner is dependable and responsible to the other, and support each other’s goals and aspirations.

Saturn square or opposite another person’s Saturn can bring difficulties. Saturn moves relatively slowly, so there would be an age difference of about 7 years for the square aspect, and 14 years for the opposition aspect (approximately). These two might be in very different stages in life, and are going in different directions. Their goals might not line up well, and there may be a tendency to always get in each other’s way.

Saturn already represents duty, responsibility, maturity, as well as pessimism. It shows the areas in our life where we ‘lack’ something, or what we see as a burden. Someone’s Saturn in harsh aspect to your Saturn increases each person’s negative feelings about their own Saturn. For example, if my Saturn is in my 3rd house, I am very self-conscious about communicating with others, and tend to not speak up due to this insecurity. Someone with Saturn square my Saturn would make me more self-conscious, and may talk over me and interrupt me often.

Saturn-Uranus Aspects

Saturn in conjunction to another person’s Uranus is an explosive aspect to share in synastry. Uranus represents rebellion, Saturn represents Authority. Uranus represents freedom, Saturn represents duty and responsibility. They are completely opposite energies in some ways, so when combined in synastry, it produces a tense energy between the couple.

In this case, the Uranus person might feel stifled and repressed by pessimistic and cynical Saturn, while Saturn feels Uranus is unstable, unreliable and impractical. Saturn likes maintaining the status quo, and Uranus loves change, so there may be a constant battle between these two.

Saturn in sextile or trine to another person’s Uranus is much more positive than the conjunction. In this case, Saturn’s practical and realistic nature gels well with Uranus’ uniqueness and individuality. They feel mutually supported and appreciated in this relationship.

Saturn in square or opposition to another person’s Uranus acts similarly to the conjunction, but with more friction. The feeling of being ‘blocked’ by one another is strong with this aspect. In this case, Uranus feels their individuality and uniqueness are not appreciated by the Saturn person, while the Saturn person feels the Uranus person is very unreliable and unpredictable. The Saturn person feels they cannot rely on the Uranus person, and the Uranus person feels they cannot be themselves around the Saturn person.

Check the houses and house rulership of Saturn and Uranus in their charts. Say Uranus rules your 7th house, and your partner’s Saturn makes a square aspect to your Uranus. This could spell big trouble for your relationship, and might even prevent a relationship from forming in the first place.

Saturn-Neptune Aspects

Saturn in conjunction to another person’s Neptune is an interesting combination of conflicting energies. Saturn is the planet of realism and duty, while Neptune rules spirituality, dreams, and ones inner world. This aspect indicates the Saturn person may find the Neptune person a bit unrealistic and impractical, while Neptune may find the Saturn person to be overly pessimistic or cynical.

On the good side, the Saturn person might help the Neptune person make their dreams into a reality, while Neptune may help Saturn become less rigid and more idealistic.

Saturn in sextile or trine to another person’s Neptune is a good thing to see in a synastry chart. Here, the Saturn person helps the Neptune person ‘come down to earth’, while the Neptune person encourages Saturn to dream bigger.

Saturn in square or opposition to another person’s Saturn indicates a battle between fantasy and reality. The Saturn person may feel the Neptune person has their head in the clouds, and may discourage them from expressing their spiritual ideas or fantasies.

The Neptune person may feel the Saturn person is a ‘stick in the mud’, and may resent Saturn’s need to always be so rigid and practical. Neptune wants Saturn to dream a little, while Saturn wants Neptune to be more realistic.

Check the houses and house rulership of Saturn and Neptune in their charts. Say Saturn rules your 7th house, and your partner’s Neptune makes a square aspect to your Saturn. This could spell big trouble for your relationship, as the Neptune person might bring a confusion or deception to the relationship.

Saturn-Pluto Aspects

Saturn in conjunction to another person’s Pluto blends realism and practicality with transformation and intensity. Both Saturn and Pluto are quite controlling in their own way: Saturn is practical and wants to maintain the status quo, while Pluto wants to have complete control and desires transformation. The Pluto person may feel restricted by the Saturn person, while the Saturn person may feel the Pluto person is overly controlling and may resist Pluto’s desire to control them.

Saturn in sextile or trine to another person’s Pluto is a good thing to see in a synastry chart. This would work so well in a business relationship, as it blends power and intensity with practicality and perseverance. In this relationship, the two work together instead of getting in each other’s way.

Saturn in square or opposition to another person’s Pluto is a problematic aspect. It reminds me of the saying, “an unstoppable force meets an immovable object”. Pluto wants intensity, control, and transformation, but feels Saturn blocks them. At the same time, Saturn may be afraid of change and wants to maintain the status quo. There is a constant battle between them, and each feels they are blocked by the other. Themes of control and power struggles are present in this relationship.

Check the houses and house rulership of Saturn and Pluto in their charts. Say Pluto rules your 7th house, and your partner’s Saturn makes a square aspect to your Pluto. This could spell big trouble for the relationship, and may even prevent them from getting together in the first place.

Jupiter-Jupiter Aspects in Synastry

Jupiter conjunct, sextile or trine another person’s Jupiter indicates a similarity in beliefs and worldviews, which certainly increases the compatibility between these two. This couple is very generous to each other, and feel more positive in each other’s presence. Check where Jupiter is located in your chart, and what house it rules – these are the areas your partner will enhance. For example, if my Jupiter is in my 2nd house, and my partner’s Jupiter makes a sextile from my 4th house, perhaps my partner’s family helps me increase my income.

It is really important to check the house placement and rulership here. Say Jupiter rules my 2nd house of income, and my partner’s Jupiter makes a conjunction to it. This means the Jupiter person is generous to me and may bring a lot of financial opportunities to my life.

Jupiter opposite or square another person’s Jupiter can indicate a clash of philosophy or faith. With the opposition, each partner may be fascinated by the other person’s worldview, and might come to appreciate their perspective. With the square, however, the two of them may have completely different worldviews or beliefs, which may cause issues between them.

In addition, each partner might encourage excess and irresponsibility in the other. This can be a very ‘fun’ aspect to share with someone, but the two of you may be a bad influence over each other. Say I have Jupiter in my 6th house: if my partner has their Jupiter square my Jupiter, they might encourage me to become more lazy or excessive when it comes to my health and eating habits.

Jupiter-Saturn Aspects in Synastry

Jupiter conjunct, sextile or trine another person’s Saturn indicates these two make a great team. Saturn’s realism and responsible nature complements Jupiter’s positivity and expansiveness.

Together, they are able to strike a balance between excess and restraint. The Jupiter person helps the Saturn person dream big and become more positive, while the Saturn person will help the Jupiter person become more realistic with their goals and planning. With the conjunction, there may be a threat of the Saturn person being a bit of a wet blanket to the Jupiter person, while the Saturn person may find the Jupiter person quite excessive and unrealistic.

Check where each person’s planets are located and which houses they rule in order to learn more about how this aspect affects the relationship. For example, if I have Saturn in the 11th house, I find friendships difficult and prefer being on my own. If someone’s Jupiter makes an aspect to my Saturn, they might encourage me to be more social, and I’ll feel more positive about socializing because of the Jupiter person’s encouragement.

Jupiter opposite or square another person’s Saturn can indicate a a clash between the partners. In this case, the Jupiter person may feel like the Saturn person is a ‘wet blanket’ or ‘party pooper’. Jupiter may feel Saturn is too pessimistic or realistic, while Saturn may find Jupiter overly idealistic, excessive or unrealistic. This feeling is especially pronounced in the case of the square. With the opposition, the couple bounces back and forth between the two energies, and can learn a lot from each other.

It is really important to check the house placement and rulership. Say the Jupiter person is a Gemini Ascendant, so their Descendant is ruled by Jupiter. If someone’s Saturn makes a square to their Jupiter, it could mean trouble for long term relationship potential. In this case, Jupiter acts much like Venus, given that it rules the house of partnership and commitment. Saturn in square aspect can indicate barriers and obstacles to forming a lasting bond and commitment.

The Jupiter person feels stronger and more powerful as a result of their connection. This connection strengthens each person’s desire to achieve and transform into better versions of themselves.

Saturn in the Houses in Synastry

Saturn represents duty, responsibility, commitment, pessimism and burdens, among many other things. Saturn connections in synastry and composite are key to a long-lasting relationship, in my opinion.

In synastry, it is important to look at where your partner’s Saturn lands in your chart and how it aspects your planets. Check out which house your loved one’s Saturn resides: this is the area in which your partner expresses their Saturnian qualities.

How you feel about this energy depends a lot on your natal chart, your partner’s natal chart, and your synastry/Composite charts.  If your partner’s Saturn aspects your planets harshly, the negative qualities of Saturn may express themselves through this house. Keep reading to learn more!

Saturn in the 1st house

The placement of one person’s Saturn in the other person’s 1st house indicates the Saturn person feels responsible to the 1st house person and the way they present themselves to the world. Perhaps Saturn wants to restrict or change the 1st house person in some way, in regards to how they express their individuality. Saturn helps the 1st house person ‘grow up’ and present a more mature and professional version of themselves to others.

On the downside, the 1st house person may feel the Saturn person is very critical of them. The 1st house person may not feel they can fully ‘be themselves’ around the Saturn person, out of fear that the Saturn person will criticize or disapprove. How the 1st house person receives the Saturn person really depends on the rest of the chart.

I have dated men who have their Saturn in my Sagittarius first house, and it did not work well. Sagittarius is such a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky, optimistic sign, so the Saturn person felt like a wet blanket.

Saturn in the 2nd house

The placement of one person’s Saturn in the other person’s 2nd house indicates the Saturn person feels responsible to the 2nd house person and their realm of financial security and self-worth.  In this case, Saturn helps the 2nd person to be more careful and cautious with their spending. Perhaps Saturn encouraged the 2nd house person to invest and save their money. This would be an excellent placement if the Saturn person is the accountant to the 2nd house person.

On the downside, the 2nd house person may find the Saturn person very miserly and cheap. The 2nd house person might not appreciate the Saturn person’s need to control their finances, and may feel they need to hide big purchases from the Saturn person.

Saturn in the 3rd house

The 3rd house represents communication, so the Saturn person may help the 3rd house person become more mature in the way they express themselves. If the house person is generally very chatty, they will be less so around the Saturn person, particularly when it comes to small talk.  The Saturn person encourages the 3rd house person to be more cautious with their words, and to think before they speak.

On the downside, the 3rd house person may feel they cannot express themselves freely with the Saturn person. Perhaps they feel the Saturn person is pessimistic or cynical to their thoughts and ideas, or maybe the Saturn person has the nasty habit of always interrupting them. The 3rd house person may eventually feel they need to censor their thoughts and ideas around the Saturn person, which can lead to awkward silences and feeling ignored.

Saturn in the 4th house

The placement of Saturn in another person’s 4th house indicates a great amount of duty and responsibility felt by both parties. In this case, the Saturn person helps the 4th house person take on a more responsible and mature attitude towards their home and family. If the 4th house person has issues with ‘settling down’, the Saturn person will help them do so.

On the downside, the Saturn person may feel like a burden to the 4th house person. Being at home with this person may feel like a duty or responsibility. My cousin has this aspect with her father (the Saturn person), and it very clearly describes the incredible burden he has had on her life (his Saturn is horribly aspected, by the way).

It may be difficult for the 4th house person to express their ‘inner child’ to the Saturn person, likely due to the burden of responsibility and duty present in the relationship. Being at home with the Saturn person may always feel like “work” for the 4th house person. However, depending on the 4th house person’s chart, they might be ok with this (check the synastry!)

If the Saturn person is not a family member, they may influence the 4th house person’s relationship with their family; for example, the Saturn person may cause a separation (or reunion) between the 4th house person and their family.

Saturn in the 5th house

The placement of someone’s Saturn in another person’s 5th house indicates the combination of responsibility and duty with the house of fun and romance.  The 5th house is a very loving, creative house, so Saturn’s placement here in synastry can be challenging. On the good side, the Saturn person encourages the 5th house person to be more mature and responsible in their creativity and self-expression.  This placement can also indicate the 5th house person will feel more (or less) inclined to have children due to the influence of the Saturn person.

On the downside, the 5th house person may feel their creative and playful side is repressed by the Saturn person. Perhaps the 5th house person feels criticized or belittled when they display their talents to the Saturn person. The Saturn person may feel like a ‘wet blanket’ to the 5th house person, so the 5th house person may prefer to socialize and have fun without the Saturn person.

Saturn in the 6th house

The placement of Saturn in someone else’s 6th house can be a positive aspect. The 6th house represents health, routines, duty, and work, so Saturn’s placement here encourages the 6th house person to be more cautious, responsible and mature in these areas.

Perhaps the Saturn person helps the 6th house person to lose weight or adopt a strict health regiment. These two feel a strong duty to one another, and are generally very helpful to each other. In normal circumstances, these two work very well as a team and can accomplish a lot together.

On the downside, the 6th house person may find the Saturn person very cynical or controlling. The 6th house person might not appreciate Saturn’s desire to change the 6th house person’s work or health routines, and may feel they need to hide certain parts of their life to avoid Saturn’s criticism.

For example, the Saturn person might not approve of the 6th house person’s diet, so the 6th house person may eat their favourite foods secretly. The 6th house person may feel very criticized and ‘picked apart’ by the Saturn person, which may cause stress and anxiety. This placement can also indicate the Saturn person is dependent on the 6th house person in some way, and the 6th house person may feel burdened by them.

Saturn in the 7th house

The placement of a person’s Saturn in another person’s 7th house is excellent for commitment and responsibility. I often see this placement in the synastry charts of married couples, which is not surprising!

The 7th house person feels duty and commitment towards the Saturn person, and vice-versa. In this relationship, it may have taken the couple a while to get together, given that Saturn often brings delays. When they finally get together, they want to build a stable partnership that lasts. The 7th house person admires and feels secure with the Saturn person, and the Saturn person increases the 7th house person’s desire for commitment and partnership.

On the downside, if Saturn is badly aspected via natal or synastry aspects, there may be barriers which prevent the couple from being together. In addition, the 7th house person may feel the Saturn person progresses too slowly in the relationship, or may feel the relationship is a burden in some way. For example, you may see this placement in an ‘arranged’ marriage, given Saturn’s connection to duty and traditions.

Saturn in the 8th house

The placement of Saturn in someone else’s 8th house is a powerful placement. In this case, the Saturn person may help the  8th house person become more responsible and mature in matters of intimacy and transformation.

The 8th house also rules shared resources and money, so the Saturn person might provide stability and responsibility to the 8th house person in this way. Perhaps the Saturn person will help the 8th house person make decisions on long-term investments and other financial decisions.

On the downside, this aspect can create difficulties in intimacy and deep bonding. The 8th house is about merging deeply with someone and learning each and every one of their deep dark secrets. It is also about physical and emotional intimacy.

This placement indicates the 8th house person may feel they cannot fully share and merge themselves with the Saturn person. Perhaps the 8th house person feels the Saturn person will not approve of or support the 8th house person’s need for deep intimacy and bonding. As a result, the 8th house person may feel quite unsatisfied or repressed by the Saturn person.

Saturn in the 9th house

The 9th house represents travel, philosophy, and higher learning.  A person’s Saturn in another person’s 9th house indicates the Saturn person encourages the 9th house person to be more mature and responsible in these areas. Perhaps the Saturn person helps the 9th house person with their education, or to structure or define their beliefs.

If the 9th house person is very fixed or rigid in their beliefs, this could cause an issues and tensions between the couple. The 9th house person may feel the Saturn person belittles or criticizes the 9th house person’s philosophies, which could definitely lead to heated debates and conflict. Traveling together may feel burdensome, and the 9th house person may feel the Saturn person holds them back from the adventures they’d prefer to be having.

Saturn in the 10th house

The 10th house and Saturn go hand-in-hand: the 10th house represents career, duties, and status, while Saturn represents responsibility and hard work.

It would not be surprising to see this placement in the chart of a boss-employee relationship, as Saturn also represents authority. The Saturn person helps the 10th house person define and achieve their career goals, and may even open up doors to help the 10th house person gain a higher social status. The 10th house person feels supported by the Saturn person, and becomes more mature and responsible under Saturn’s guidance.

On the downside, this placement can also indicate the Saturn person blocks the 10th house person’s career or social status in some way (check the synastry), or may be too burdensome or controlling over their career.

Saturn in the 11th house

The 11th house represents friendships, groups/clubs, and long-term goals. Someone’s Saturn in another person’s 11th house indicates the Saturn person encourages the 11th house person to be more responsible and mature these areas.

Perhaps the Saturn person wants the 11th house person to have more responsible friends. The Saturn person might introduce the 11th house person to friends who are older or more mature, and who are a better influence over the 11th house person. Saturn might also help the house person make their long terms dreams come true.

On the downside, the Saturn person may cause separations between the 11th house person and their friends. The 11th house person’s friends might not like the Saturn person, and may find them boring, misery, or like a ‘wet blanket’. As a result, the house person may feel they need to keep the Saturn person separate from their friends.

Saturn in the 12th house

The 12th house represents dreams, spirituality, escapism, and isolation, among many other themes.

Saturn’s placement in another person’s 12th house is an interesting one. If the 12th house person struggles a lot with 12th house issues, such as drugs and other escapist activities, the Saturn person can help them greatly.

Saturn can also help the 12th house person deal with their subconscious feelings and help them become more realistic with them. This placement can also indicate the two of them are on a strict spiritual path in which the Saturn acts like a guru to the 12th house person.

On the downside, the Saturn person may be a burden to the 12th house person in some way (i.e. perhaps the Saturn person is sick in some way, and the 12th house person is forced to take care of them). Perhaps the 12th house person feels their spiritual path is blocked or discouraged by the Saturn person, or the Saturn person brings a heaviness to this area. The 12th house is a very spiritual, ethereal house, so structured and pessimistic Saturn can have trouble here.

Pluto in the Houses in Synastry

In synastry, Pluto represents power, control, obsession and manipulation. Heavy Pluto relationships are full of power struggles and control issues, but also deep transformation and desire. Intimacy and closeness are very important in relationships with a lot of Pluto connections.

In the houses, Pluto represents how and where these intense energies are concentrated. Usually, the Pluto tries to control or transform the area which is represented by the other person’s house. In this article, we look at how Pluto expresses itself in the houses in synastry.

Pluto in the 1st house

The Pluto person feels strong attracted to the 1st house person, and the 1st house person is flattered at the attention and desire the Pluto person expresses to them. The first house person feels more powerful because the Pluto person encourages them to embrace their strength.

At the same time, the way the 1st house person presents themselves to the world makes the Pluto person feel insecure. As a result, the Pluto person may want to control or change the 1st house person’s appearance or mannerisms in some way.

Here is an example: Pluto does not the way the 1st house person dresses, for Pluto feels jealous of the attention the 1st house person attracts. The 1st house person may feel the Pluto person is obsessive and overbearing and might not appreciate Pluto’s desire to change them. Pluto might resort to manipulative tactics in order to influence the 1st person, which may lead to arguments and conflict.

Pluto in the 2nd house

The placement of Pluto in another person’s 2nd house indicates the Pluto person influences the 2nd house person’s realm of finances, security, and self-worth. Whether the influence is good depends on the rest of the synastry and natal charts.

On the positive side, the Pluto person could transform the 2nd house person’s financial situation for the better, by either providing financial assistance or helping the 2nd house person open new financial opportunities.

At the same time, the Pluto person might negatively influence the 2nd house person’s finances. Pluto is the planet of extremes. so it can be extremely good or extremely bad. The 2nd house person may find the Pluto person very overbearing, and may find their need to control and change their finances very annoying.

Pluto wants to know everything about the 2nd house person’s finances. Power struggles over who owns what and how they should save/invest might be a big source of contention in the relationship.

Pluto in the 3rd house

The placement of Pluto in another person’s 3rd house indicates the Pluto person influences the 3rd house person’s realm of communication, short trips, siblings and neighbours, among other things. The Pluto person wants to get into the 3rd person’s mind, but may want to change the way the 3rd house person’s ideas and how they communicate, and may be quite overbearing or manipulative in their quest to do so.

There may also be some control issues or transformation the Pluto person brings regarding the 3rd house person’s relationship with their siblings or neighbours.

On the positive side, the two of them enjoy many deep and intense conversations. These two can learn a lot from each other, as long as they can respect each other’s opinions and not feel they always have to ‘win’ every debate. It is important for them to ‘agree to disagree’ from time to time!

Pluto in the 4th house

The placement of Pluto in another person’s 4th house indicates the Pluto person influences the 4th house person’s realm of home, family, and the past, among other things.  The Pluto person may try to transform or control the 4th house person’s home life in some way, and wants to know everything about the 4th house persons’ family and past.

In regards to the home, perhaps the 4th house person moves far away to be with the Pluto person, for the Pluto person likely controls where the couple lives and how their home is run.

In regards to family, the Pluto person may somehow change the 4th house person’s relationship to their families and their pasts. If the 4th house person has a negative relationship with their family or their past, Pluto can help them transform it into a better relationship. Or, the Pluto person may negatively transform the house person’s relationship to their family. Look at how Pluto is aspected in their natal chart and in synastry for more clues!

In this case, the Pluto person may try to transform the 5th house attitudes towards 5th house themes. Perhaps the Pluto person changes the 5th house person’s views on having children, or helps the 5th house person harness their creative power.

Because the 5th house has to do with romantic love, this placement also indicates an intense love affair. Power struggles and control issues may come into play, especially if one or both people feel insecure in the relationship. It is important to give the other a lot of attention, for the feelings of jealousy and possessiveness will likely feature in this couple.

Pluto in the 6th house

The placement of Pluto in another person’s 6th house indicates the Pluto person influences the 6th house person’s realm of health, work, and routines. In this case, the Pluto person transforms these areas of the 6th house person’s life. The Pluto person might try to change or control the 6th house person’s health and diet routines, which may or may not be appreciated by the 6th house person.

If the 6th house person is very fixed and stubborn when it comes to these things, power struggles ensue. The same thing goes for the 6th house person’s routines and work; the Pluto person may be quite obsessive and overbearing when it comes to knowing every detail about the 6th house person’s day. This might cause a lot of friction between the couple, for Pluto always think they know better.

Pluto in the 7th house

The placement of Pluto in another person’s 7th house indicates the Pluto person influences the 7th house person’s realm of partnership and commitment. This is overall a good placement, for it shows a strong connection and desire to partner with each other.

Both partners may be quite obsessed with each other and their relationship, but power struggles and control issues may come into play, especially if the relationship is not equal in some way. They both might tend to overpower the other or gain control over the relationship, due to a strong fear of losing each other.

Manipulation and jealousy may feature strongly between these two. On the good side, the two of them make a powerful team and are deeply devoted to each other. It is important to treat your partner like a PARTNER, not an opponent.

Pluto in the 8th house

Pluto is so comfortable in Scorpio’s house of transformation, death, taxes, and, of course, sex and intimacy. The placement of Pluto in another person’s 8th house indicates a very intense and transformative relationship for both partners.

Sexually, this connection is extremely intense. Sex isn’t just sex in this case; it is an expression of deep intimacy and bonding. The Pluto person wants to know everything and everything about the 8th house person, and pries below the surface to uncover subconscious feelings that reside within the 8th house person’s pysche.

The 8th house person feels exposed when they are with the Pluto person; it is as if they cannot hide anything from the Pluto person. Obviously, this placement would be a powerful one if the Pluto person was a therapist or counselor.

The 9th house person may become quite obsessed with traveling with the Pluto person because of this. The Pluto person may also exert some kind of influence or control over the 9th house person’s higher studies.

Pluto in the 10th house

The placement of Pluto in another person’s 10th house indicates the Pluto person influences the 10th house person’s realm of career, reputation, and status. In this case, the Pluto person might try to control or transform the 10th house person’s career in some way.

The Pluto person can be very overbearing or nosy, which may annoy the 10th house person, especially if they have a clear career path in mind. This can also mean the Pluto person is literally the 10th house person’s boss or authority figure.

My father has his Pluto right on my Midheaven, and he is completely obsessed with my career and future. He tends to worry about it more than I do!

Pluto is obsessed with knowing all of 12th house person’s secrets and dreams. The Pluto person may have a transformative effect on the 12th house person’s spiritual path, and the two of them bond deeply when they are alone. In the worst case scenario, the Pluto person might be very deceptive towards the 12th house person, and uses their deep knowledge of the 12th house person to manipulate them.

Natal Saturn in the Houses

Your natal Saturn tells you where you feel the most lack, restriction or responsibility. Saturn is not a ‘fun’ planet, but it tells you the area of your life that you feel more difficulty than others.

In addition to house placement, check how Saturn aspects your natal planet and angles to get more clues on how Saturn affects you. If Saturn makes a harsh aspect to one of your planets, check which planet/house it resides in, and what house that planet rules in your chart for more clues on how Saturn affects you.

Saturn in the 1st house

The first house represents your persona, or the face we wear when we first meet people. With Saturn in your 1st house, you come across as very serious to others, and others may even find you unapproachable or intimidating.

This may be an annoying comment, for you do not mean to come across this way!  There can be a self-consciousness when it comes down to expressing ones own individuality or style.

You might be quite quiet or serious when people first meet you, and there might be a reluctance to open up to people until you feel safe and comfortable. This placement can also indicate a slender physique, given Saturn’s influence. You prefer a classic look and an understated wardrobe, unless other aspects say otherwise.

Saturn in the 2nd house

The second house represents your income, material possessions, self-worth and what you value. Saturn in this house represent you feel a lack or discipline in these areas. Generating a good income or acquiring material possessions may take you a while, for you might run into many barriers or frustrations in this process.

As a result, you may be quite pessimistic or cynical over your ability to make money. Be patient and keep going, for Saturn tends to delay its rewards, after a lot of hard work.

Saturn in the 3rd house

The third house represents communications, neighbours, and siblings. Saturn in this house indicates you are self-conscious about sharing your thoughts an ideas. There may be a fear that others will judge you or find your ideas silly. As a result, you may be quite a quiet person.

This aspect can also indicates issues regarding ones siblings or neighbours, and can cause alienation and separation from them. Depending on how Saturn is aspected, it can also mean learning issues or problems in school. Saturn in the 3rd house people are very intelligent, but take their time to communicate because they want to get things rights.

Saturn in the 4th house

The fourth house represents family, home, and past.  Saturn in this house indicates you might feel quite alienated from your family. Perhaps your parents were not there for you enough when you were young, or perhaps they did not treat you kindly when you were a child. Or, there might be a feeling of ‘not fitting in’ with your family, due to different lifestyles and personalities.

Either way, there can be a feeling of separation from one’s family. You may have negative or cynical feelings about your past and how you were raised, which might cause issues with your parents, as well. You may feel a lack of connection to your roots and traditions.

Saturn in the 5th house

The fifth house represents creativity, children, and self-expression. Saturn in this house indicates you may feel a lack or restriction in this area. Perhaps you feel guilty when you go out and have fun, or feel otherwise uncomfortable when you are socializing. Others may see you as a party pooper because of this.

This aspect can restrict the desire to have kids, and you might not like being around children in general. It might feel odd of uncomfortable for you to be the centre of attention. You are not a very spontaneous or dramatic person, unless other aspects say otherwise.

Saturn in the 6th house

The sixth house represents work, health, and routines. Saturn in this house indicates you are a very responsible, duty-oriented person with an amazing work ethic. Others may see you as a workaholic.

The type of job you choose will likely have a lot of responsibility, and/or you will take on more responsibility throughout your career (whether you want to or not). This placement can also indicate someone who is very restrictive or controlled in their eating and routines. You might be very particular about how things are organized and ordered in your life.

Saturn in the 7th house

The seventh house represents commitment and partnership (both romantic and business). Saturn in this house can delay or restrict marriage and commitment (depending on how Saturn aspects other planets in your chart). There may be a feeling of heaviness or duty when it comes to your relationships. In some ways, they may feel like a burden, and something you do out of responsibility for someone else.

Finding a relationship and settling down might happen later in life for you. You do not take commitment lightly, so you choose carefully. However, once you are in a relationship, it is for the long run.

The eighth house represents transformation, death & rebirth, and intimacy. Saturn in this house can indicate barriers and difficulties in these areas. You might be quite resistant to transformation and growth with this aspect.  There may be a fear or hesitancy about exploring the unknown. It may be difficult for you to connect with your subconscious with this aspect. Saturn in the 8th house can also indicate difficulty with intimacy and sex.

There may be a sense of fear or restriction when it comes to bonding sexually. Some people with Saturn in the 8th house avoid sex together, or make sex into a job, given the association between duty and responsibility with intimacy and sex.

The ninth house represents travel, higher learning, and philosophy. Saturn in this house can restrict travel, of travel may feel burdensome or unenjoyable for you. Perhaps you do business abroad, and feel your travels are always for your job. You might be very skeptical about religion or philosophy, and can be quite set in your ways. This placement can also indicate that you are very religious or feel a strong sense of duty towards your faith. Either way. your attitude towards faith and religion will be a strong one.

Saturn in the 10th house

The tenth house represents career, social status, and authority. Saturn in this house indicates restriction and hard work in regards to these areas of your life. You are ambitious, but may need to deal with authority figures who are always getting in the way of your success. You likely have a career full of responsibility and dependency.

You work very hard towards your goals, despite the frustrations that come along the way. Saturn tends to delay, so you might not see career success until later on in life. This placement can also indicate a strict or difficult parent (most likely the father) who put a lot of responsibility on you as a child.

Saturn in the 11th house

The eleventh house represents friendships, groups/clubs, and long-term goals. Saturn in this house indicates restriction in these areas. I personally have this placement, and I do not have many friends. In general, I like to keep my circle tight, for keeping tabs on several friends feels very burdensome to me.

I prefer quality over quantity in my friendships, and some of my best friends are Capricorns. People with Saturn in the 11th house do not feel very comfortable in a group, and instead prefer hanging out with a close group of friends. There may be a reluctance to let more people into your circle. Finding friends you truly connect with can be difficult.

Saturn in the 12th house

The twelfth house represents spirituality, dreams, and one’s inner world. You likely have very powerful and vivid dreams. Pay attention to them, as they might send you very powerful messages and give you guidance on your life. You are a very sensitive person who absorbs the feelings of others (or others project themselves onto you), and take their feelings on as your own. As a result, it is very important for you to have a lot of alone time.

Saturn in this house indicates you have a cynical or pessimistic view towards spirituality or have had bad experiences. At the same time, it can make you very devoted to your spiritual practice, particularly later in life. Saturn represents restriction and cynicism, but also represents duty and responsibility, so it can express itself differently based on the sign and aspects Saturn makes.

If you are a spiritual person, perhaps your parents are spiritual people and you adopted these practices early on in life. This placement indicate you may feel quite depressed, alone and isolated. You may experience negative experiences regarding psychedelic substances, so be very careful to only experiment with people you trust.

The Absolute Best Composite Chart Aspects

After doing hundreds of relationship readings, I’ve learned a thing or two about what makes a relationship work, and aspects and placements that tend to keep the couple together.

As I’ve said before, I believe a good composite chart can ‘make up for’ a ‘bad’ synastry chart, so today I will concentrate on the absolute best Composite Chart aspects.

Note: this is not an exhaustive list, and even if you do not see these aspects in your Composite Chart, it does not mean your relationship is doomed! You can generate your Composite Chart on astro.com.

Positive Aspects to the ruler of the 7th house

This is the first thing I check when reading a Composite Chart. If you are not sure what your Composite 7th house ruler is, see below:

  • If your Composite 1st house is in Aries, the Composite 7th house ruler is Venus
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Taurus, the Composite 7th house ruler is Pluto
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Gemini, the Composite 7th house ruler is Jupiter
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Cancer, the Composite 7th house ruler is Saturn
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Leo, the Composite house ruler is Uranus
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Virgo, the Composite house ruler is Neptune
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Libra, the Composite house ruler is Mars
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Scorpio, the Composite house ruler is Venus
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Sagittarius, the Composite 7th house ruler is Mercury
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Capricorn, the Composite 7th house ruler is the Moon
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Aquarius, the Composite 7th house ruler is the Sun
  • If your Composite 1st house is in Pisces, the Composite 7th house ruler is Mercury

It is extremely important to check the condition of the 7th house ruler. What aspects are made to this planet? Where is it located?

If the 7th house ruler receives a hard aspect (aka square or opposition) from an outer planet (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto), there could be trouble for the relationship. For example, if Saturn is square the 7th house ruler, it can block a couple from being together. If Uranus was opposite a Composite 7th house ruler, the relationship might be very unstable and the couple will find it hard to settle down.

However, if it makes a ‘nice’ aspect (aka sextile, trine, conjunction) to another composite planet, such as conjunct the Sun, Moon, Venus, or Jupiter, this can be a very good indicator of love. For example, my sister and her husband’s Composite 7th house ruler is Mercury, which is conjunct the Composite Sun, Venus and Uranus, and sextile Saturn. What a fantastic connection they share.

Also look at the house placement of the 7th house ruler. If it is in the 12th house, for example, the relationship might be hidden in some way.

Composite Sun conjunct Composite Venus

This is a classic indicator of love and compatibility. The couple truly like being around each other, and will feel more loving and considerate when they are together. It feels natural for them to partner together. This is one of the most common aspects to find in the composite chart of a married or long-term couple.

It can also commonly  be seen in the charts of good friends. Check the house this conjunction resides to determine how this aspect will manifest in the relationship and what makes the couple feel more in love with each other.

For example, my sister and her husband have this conjunction in the 9th house, so they tend to bond and fall more deeply in love when they travel together. They both love to travel and explore, and make perfect travel buddies to each other. They have traveled frequently throughout their relationship, and that will continue in the future.

Composite Sun conjunct (or sextile/trine) Composite Moon

This aspect indicates a marriage of the yin and yang energies of a relationship. In this case, the couple feels like a team, and partnering together feels very natural. The couple feel supported by each other and feel stronger together than they do apart. They truly feel like they are meant together, and feel they are ‘going somewhere’ with each other.

Planets in the Composite 7th house (as long as they are well-aspected)

The 7th house represents commitment and partnership, so having planets in the composite 7th house indicates the couple work well together, and value equality and fairness in the relationship. The best planets to have in the 7th house are: Sun, Moon, Venus and Jupiter, as long as they are aspected well.

If the couple has Composite Venus in the 7th house, but it receives a square from Saturn, that might cause some barriers and obstacles to the couple formalizing their commitment. Saturn also works quite well in this house, as it increases the feelings of commitment and responsibility to each other.

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto can also work very well in a Composite Chart, but definitely check how they aspect other Composite planets. For example, if your 7th house Uranus is square 4th house Venus, that could indicate some issues regarding commitment and stability.

Composite Planets conjunct the North Node

The North Node indicates the direction and purpose of the relationship, so a Composite planet conjunct the Composite North Node can indicate the couple feels likely they are ‘going somewhere’ together. This might feel scary for both parties, but it also feels fated and meant to be.

Now, a lot depends on where the North Node is, and which planets are conjunct. Having the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter are great aspects to see in a Composite Chart, especially if they are in the 5th or 7th houses. If your 7th house ruler is conjunct the North Node, that is another excellent indication of love and commitment.

Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto can also be quite positive in this case, as long as they are well-aspected. In the case of Uranus on the North Node, the couple might run in to many unexpected and unpredictable events throughout their relationship, but it can work if the couple is ok with a bit of instability.

Either way, there is always a sense of progress or ‘going somewhere’ with each other. The Vertex conjunct the Composite North Node can also be very powerful in a Composite Chart, for it indicates a strong element of fate.

What about the South Node? These relationships can work, but the couple may feel drained and frustrated at the lack of progress in the relationship. As I said before, it really depends on the placement of the conjunction. If the couple has a South Node/planet conjunction in the 7th house, or the South Node is conjunct the 7th ruler, the couple may very well stay together. They have been together in previous lifetimes, and it feels ‘right’ to be together.

Good Aspects from each person’s Natal Chart to the Composite Chart

The Composite Chart represents the relationship itself, so treat it like a separate entity on it’s own. Composite Charts are so interesting, aren’t they?

It is very important to see how the Composite Planets interact with each person’s Natal planets to get more clues on how the relationship affects you. For example, in my last relationship, the Composite Saturn was exactly conjunct my natal Ascendant. This relationship felt very mature, but it also made me feel lonely and unappreciated.

In my sister’s case, however, her Venus and her husband’s Venus are conjunct the Composite Sun! This indicates the both of them love the relationship and love being together.

The Composite Chart will already tell you if the relationship will work or not, but comparing the Composite planets to the Natal chart planets give you clues as to who feels what. Say you have Saturn opposite Sun in the Composite chart: check to see how Saturn aspects the natal planets of the couple.

Say my Moon is conjunct the Composite Sun – this means the Composite Saturn opposes my natal Moon. I’m likely to feel emotionally isolated and unsupported in this relationship. If the Composite Saturn trines my partner’s Venus, he feels committed and supported by the relationship. So, it is obviously me who is feeling the weight of the Sun-Saturn opposition more than I am!

Again, this is not an exhaustive list, and I will continue to add to it as time goes on.

Composite Mars and Aspects

The Composite Mars represents the energy, passion, and drive of the relationship. It shows how the couple expresses their desires and assert themselves as a unit. The sign that Mars is in will give more information about the nature of this expression.

For example, Mars in Aries may indicate a relationship that is active, competitive, and impulsive. Whereas Mars in Taurus may indicate a relationship that is steady, persistent, and sensual.

The house placement of composite Mars will give information about the area of life where the couple’s desires and actions are focused. The aspects that composite Mars makes to other planets in the composite chart will also give more information about how the couple’s desires and actions are expressed and received.

In this article, we go over how Composite Mars expresses itself in aspects to other Composite Planets.

Composite Mars-Jupiter Aspects

The conjunction between Mars and Jupiter in a Composite Chart indicates a relationship full of positivity and energy. These two feel much more optimistic, generous, and joyous when they are together. Their sexual life is rich and abundant, like they cannot get enough of each other.

They encourage each other’s assertiveness and courageousness, but may also encourage excess and going overboard. Check the house this conjunction resides to see where this energy is most concentrated.

The sextile and trine aspects work similarly to the conjunction, but they are less intense and more positive in nature.

The square and opposition aspects still bring feelings of generosity, positivity and great sexual energy to the relationship, but the couple needs to be careful of having “too much of a good thing.” This couple might encourage excessive and irresponsible actions, such as over-eating or overspending.

Composite Mars-Saturn Aspects

The conjunction between Mars and Saturn in a Composite Chart indicates a cautious and responsible couple. This is not an energetic couple; in fact, they actually may feel a bit held back by the relationship. They feel less energetic and motivated when they are together. Perhaps the relationship is somewhat burdensome for at least one of the partners.

The couple’s sexual life might not be overly exciting due to Saturn’s repressive influence. This couple might find it difficult to express their anger to one another in the moment, leading to big blow ups later one.

The sextile and trine aspects work similarly to the conjunction, but they are less intense and more positive in nature.

The square and opposition aspects can be very tough in a relationship. It indicates the partners feel blocked or repressed by the relationship. They get annoyed and frustrated with each other easily.

There may be sexual issues and frustrations. The relationship might feel very exhausting or draining for one of both partners.

Composite Mars-Uranus Aspects

The conjunction between Mars and Uranus in a Composite Chart indicates an exciting and unpredictable relationship. The couple feels more adventurous and impulsive when they are together, which may lead to some trouble!

There may be many surprises throughout the relationship, and it may be difficult for them to settle down into a committed and stable partnership. Sex is excitiing and inventive, especially at first. This aspect can be seen in extra-marital relationships, or in open/polyamorous relationships.

The sextile and trine aspects work similarly to the conjunction, but they are less intense and more positive in nature. They keep the relationship feeling fresh without all the upsetting parts.

The square and opposition aspects can be very tough in a relationship. These aspects indicate a lot of unpredictability and instability in the relationships. Fights might start out of no where, leading to many break-ups and reunions.

The sexual energy between them is exciting at first, but quickly becomes inconsistent.  It will be difficult for these two to settle down into a stable and secure relationship.

Composite Mars-Neptune Aspects

The conjunction between Mars and Neptune in a Composite Chart indicates a relationship full of compassion and sensitivity to one another. Both partners are far more dreamy and sensitive with each other, than they are individually. They might bond over shared spiritual goals.

This couple might help each other make their dreams come true, but there might also be an element of delusion or ‘over promising’ to each other.  Sex is sweet and loving, and is almost spiritual in nature. The couple may feel more gentle and compassion in each other’s presence.

The sextile and trine aspects work similarly to the conjunction, but they are less intense and more positive in nature.

The square and opposition aspects can be very tough in a relationship. The harsh aspects from Neptune increase the idealization and delusions in the relationship. There may be a lot of confusion over what this relationship is and where it is going.

There may be some sexual deception, here, as well. One partner may feel the other is taking advantage of them, so it is very important to communicate frequently to ensure they are both on the same page.

Composite Mars-Pluto Aspects

The Conjunction between Mars and Pluto indicate an explosive, intense, and transformative relationship. Sex is deeply intimate and bonding, and others can sense the sexual tension between you. At the same time, this aspect increases power struggles in the couple, due to a subconscious fear of losing each other.

Tempers may explode in this relationship, for this couple is anything but indifferent to each other. As a couple, they feel much more powerful when they are together than they do individually.

The sextile and trine aspects work similarly to the conjunction, but they are less intense and more positive in nature.

The square or opposition can be difficult in a relationship. This aspect indicates the couple can get under each under’s skin, leading to many explosive arguments. The sexual connection between you is extremely intense and transformative, but jealousy and obsessiveness may plague the relationship.

Power struggles are very likely here. At worst, this aspect can indicate abuse and violence, given the explosive tempers they couple bring out in each other.

Composite Mars-Node Aspects

The Composite Mars in conjunction to the Composite North Node indicates the couple truly feel like they are ‘going somewhere’ with each other. The couple is assertive and ambitious in their quest to achieve goals and take action.

The sexual and physical connection between them is exciting and seductive. Check where this conjunction resides to learn more about how your energies are concentrated in this relationship.

For example, a Mars-North Node conjunction in the 2nd house would indicate the couple focuses its energy in the pursuit of material wealth. They would make great business partners.

Also check the house Mars rules for more information: if Mars rules the 4th house in the Composite Chart, and is conjunct the North Node in the second house, the couple may be in a business partnership relating to real estate (4th house).

North Node connections can feel very uncomfortable, as they bring us into unfamiliar territory and force us to leave our comfort zone. At the same time, there is also a feeling of ‘destiny’ and knowing you are on the right path with each other. As a result, North Node conjunctions are extremely binding in a relationship, for the couple sees their future in one another

The Composite Mars in conjunction to the Composite South Node indicates a past life relationship. This couple feels very comfortable with each other, for they have met before, in a past life. There is an immediate feeling of understanding each other, particularly when it comes to each other’s drives, energies and motivations.

There is unfinished business between this couple, which is why they have been brought back together in this life. The physical ad sexualy chemistry between them is very intense and passionate. Check the house of the conjunction to learn more about the aspect.

example, if Composite Mars is conjunct composite North Node in the 4th house, this couple may have been family members in the past, or at least lived together. There may be past drama related to the family or home which need to be dealt with in this lifetime.
